In Revision 5, The skills work differently than they did in any previous version. Skills are either found or bought here. Some are limited to certain classes and some aren't limited at all.
Obtaining and using Skills
Basic Skills can be bought from the Command Shop in each town. Some rarer skills can only be found in areas or traded to you by other characters. You can own as many Skills as will fit in the Skill section of your inventory, But you may only use Skills that have been placed in your Command Cycle.
Command Cycle
The Command Cycle is the list of your acquired Skills that you can use actively in combat. You can own as many skills as you want, but you can only actively use the skills that you have placed into your command cycle. You Cycle Capacity, or CC is dependent on your level and class. Most classes start out with 1 or 2 CC, meaning they can only actively use one or two Skills at a time. Skills can only be dropped or added to the Command Cycle when battle is Not in progress.
Command Recharge
After using a skill, your command Cycle needs to recharge, and therefore you cannot use skills or items durring the next turn of play.
Skill Levels
Skills are categorized into the level a player needs to be in order to add them to their Cycle for active use. This doesn't mean that one cannot own the skill for several levels before it can be used. Some classes have the ability to use skills at lower levels than the skills say.
Skill and Class Categories
Skill categories help you figure out what skills would be best for your character's chosen Class, and Class categories define which classes are allowed to use certain spells. This list will act as a guide for deciding which skills you want and are allowed to use.
Melee Skills are skills that can only be used at short distance with physical Attacks
Magic Skills Are skills that cast spells over long distances
Meta Skills Are melee skills that are amplified by magical power.
Heavy Classes refers to Heavy Axemen, and Heavy Blades
Swift Classes refers to Blademasters and Long arms
Light Classes refers to Twin Blades, Thaumatergists, and Illusionists
Mage Classes Refers to Wavemasters and Macabre Dancers
Range Classes Refers to Archers and Steam Grenadiers.
Requisite Skills
Some skills require that you have lower level skills equipped along with them. For instance, the 7th level skill, Siphon requires that you have the Summon Skill as well, as it deals with the summoned monster. These cases are rare and most often self-explanatory.
Passive Skills
Passive Skills are a special category of skills that do not grant you an attack or spell, but instead grant a constant effect. For instance, the HP + Skill simply increases your maximum HP. Likewise, the Stun Ward Skill prevents you from being paralyzed. These skills' powers are useful, but they do use space in your Command Cycle like all other skills do.
